The fire that destroyed a giant planter in rural Iowa is one of the worst cases of the type in recent memory.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the fire destroyed the 300-acre farm on the edge of rural Iowa’s largest city.
It was about 1 p.m.
Monday when the Iowa State Patrol reported a fire in a planter that was at least five stories tall and weighing more than 500,000 pounds.
The state’s Department of Agriculture says the blaze was started by a water heater.
The fire burned for about three hours.
